A Pakistani gold quotation is easiest to compare when the seller states both the purity and the weight unit. A per-tola headline is not a per-10-gram quotation. This page lets you switch between them while retaining the same underlying reference, which removes a common source of confusion when comparing a news headline with a shop’s written offer.

The Competition Commission of Pakistan gold market study describes the roles of international benchmarks, the PKR exchange rate, domestic demand, margins and sarafa announcements in local price formation. That explains why converting a dollar spot quote at an arbitrary currency rate need not reproduce a Pakistani dealer’s offer. It also means that a quoted reference should not be presented as a compulsory government selling price.

Working in Tola without Losing the Gram Weight

The calculator uses 11.6638038 grams for one tola. Half a tola is 5.8319019 grams; ten grams is approximately 0.85735 tola. Keep the original gram weight on your comparison sheet and convert only for presentation. Repeatedly converting already-rounded numbers can create small differences that become more noticeable on heavier purchases.

When buying a wedding set, ask for the weight and purity of each component. A package price is convenient, but it can hide how much of the payment covers gold, stones and workmanship. For used jewellery, obtain the measured weight, assessed fineness, rate offered and every deduction before consenting to sale or melting.

City Comparisons and Purity Checks

A Karachi market reference and a Lahore jeweller’s item quotation answer different questions. The first may describe a sarafa reporting basis; the second can include that seller’s product terms. A listed local observation should retain its named publisher and unit rather than being described as a compulsory rate across Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad. For a wedding purchase, keep each component’s measured gold weight on the invoice even if the family discusses the total in tola.

Confirm the available service directly and ask whether the proposed method affects the item. A purity stamp, a laboratory result and a gold-price calculation serve different purposes.

24K, 22K and 21K Gold per Tola

For a 24K per-tola reference, choose the pure-gold setting and tola. 22K scales the gold fraction to 22/24 and 21K to 21/24, which is 87.5%. A lower karat reduces the theoretical fine-gold content at the same alloy weight. It does not mean that a detailed 21K jewellery set must have a lower final bill than a simpler 22K item.

When comparing Pakistan with the international USD gold reference, UAE gold in AED or Saudi gold in SAR, use one currency and the same gold quantity. Converting the headline alone leaves out product charges and the exchange rate actually available for payment. This comparison does not include customs or travel costs.

Worked Tola Comparison for a 21K Wedding Item

Illustration using assumed figures: take a pure-gold reference of PKR 300,000 per tola. Its nominal 21K equivalent is PKR 300,000 × 21 ÷ 24 = PKR 262,500 per tola. An item with 1.5 tola of 21K alloy therefore has an illustrated metal reference of PKR 393,750 before workmanship or other transaction items.

The same 1.5-tola quantity equals 17.4957057 grams under this calculator’s convention. If the invoice instead says 18 grams, the quantities are not identical: the additional 0.5042943 grams must be accounted for before comparing totals. Keep the scale weight and any stone deductions visible.

A separately published 21K supplier quotation takes precedence for that supplier’s own offer; it should not be overwritten to force this theoretical ratio. The example checks weight and purity mathematics and is not a collected Karachi, Lahore or national market observation.
