Use the euro gold reference to compare fine weight, bullion premiums and separate Ankauf and Verkauf offers from German dealers.
Feingold, Feingewicht and the Price per Gram
For a German gold comparison, distinguish the weight of the whole object from its fine-gold content. A jewellery item stamped 585 contains a different fraction of gold from a 999.9 bullion bar. When a seller states a coin’s fine-gold weight, use that figure directly; do not multiply it by the fineness a second time. When only the alloy’s total weight is given, the purity must be applied once.
The dashboard expresses the international reference in euros. “Feingold” refers to fine gold, “Feingewicht” to fine-metal weight and “Raugewicht” to total weight in the terminology used for a comparison. A product listing should make clear which weight it gives. This is particularly useful for older alloyed coins, where the gross weight can exceed the gold content being priced.
Ankauf and Verkauf are Different Offers
In a dealer’s price list, establish whether the column is the dealer’s buying offer or selling offer. When you sell to the dealer, the buying side is relevant. When you buy from the dealer, the selling side is relevant. Compare both for the same product and time to understand the spread. A low selling premium tells only part of the story if the current repurchase terms are less favourable.
For an online purchase, compare the complete delivered price with a local collection offer. Packaging, payment method and delivery insurance can affect the total. Ask whether the dealer locks the price when the order is placed, when payment is received or at another defined point. Keep that agreement with the product invoice.
What Anlagegold Means for a Comparison
Section 25c of Germany’s VAT Act defines qualifying investment gold and its tax treatment. It includes bars or wafers of accepted market weights with at least 995 fineness, and qualifying coins under separate criteria. The term should not be applied to every gold object. Jewellery and collectible products require their actual classification to be considered.
For Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, compare Abholung or collection terms with Versand or delivery terms before treating a price difference as geographical. Germany, France and Italy can share the same international EUR metal reference while their retail offers differ. The ECB describes its exchange references as informational; confirm the actual conversion terms when paying from another currency.
For scrap or inherited jewellery, compare written offers for the same lot. Separate the accepted gold weight, fineness and deductions from any independent value of stones, workmanship or collectibility. Melting everything into one metal figure can obscure those differences.
Compare the related Italy and France gold guides for their local product-marking and transaction context while retaining a common euro reference.
Worked Bullion Comparison: Ten Small Bars or One Larger Bar?
Illustrative offers: suppose a dealer sells a one-gram fine-gold bar for €105, a 10-gram bar for €1,020 and charges €15 delivery per order. Ten of the smaller bars cost €1,050 + €15 = €1,065; one larger bar costs €1,020 + €15 = €1,035. The two orders carry the same stated fine-gold quantity but differ by €30.
At an assumed metal reference of €100 per gram, the product premiums before delivery are €50 for the ten small bars and €20 for the larger bar. The smaller units may serve a different gifting or resale purpose, so the comparison measures cost rather than declaring one product universally preferable.
Check both Verkauf and Ankauf terms for the actual products, including any accepted packaging conditions. The figures above are fictional and do not quote a German dealer or determine the tax classification of an unspecified product.
FAQs
What is the Difference between Feingewicht and Raugewicht?
Feingewicht is the fine-metal content; Raugewicht is the whole item’s weight. For a gold-content calculation, use a stated fine-gold weight directly. If you instead start with total alloy weight, multiply by the declared or assessed gold fraction once.
Which Price Applies When I Sell: Ankauf or Verkauf?
From the dealer’s perspective, Ankauf is buying and Verkauf is selling. If the dealer is buying your item, its Ankauf offer is the relevant side. Confirm that the quoted figure applies to your product and includes all stated deductions.
Can a 585 Ring be Priced with the 24K per-Gram Figure?
Only after accounting for fineness. A simple metal comparison uses the net alloy weight multiplied by 0.585 and the pure-gold per-gram reference. Stones and other non-gold components need separate treatment, and the result is not the dealer’s payable offer.
Why is a 1-Gram Bar Dearer per Gram than a Larger Bar?
The product premium does not have to scale directly with weight. Compare complete prices per gram for the actual bar sizes, including delivery. A smaller bar may carry a different manufacturing or selling premium while using the same metal reference.
What does German Law Mean by Anlagegold?
Section 25c UStG sets the investment-gold criteria, including 995-or-higher fineness for specified bars or wafers and separate conditions for coins. Check the actual product against those conditions instead of relying only on an advertising label.
Does Every Gold Coin Receive the Same VAT Treatment?
No. The coin criteria in section 25c cover matters including fineness, minting date, legal-tender status and normal selling price relative to gold content. Jewellery and a coin outside the qualifying definition should not automatically receive the same classification.
How do I Compare Frankfurt and Munich Dealer Quotations?
Check whether each amount is Ankauf or Verkauf, then match the item’s fine weight, condition and quotation time. Compare complete offers from identified dealers. A city entry locates the business context; it does not establish a separate regional gold fixing.
Does a Dealer’s Certificate Replace Examining the Gold Item?
Check that the certificate describes the exact bar or coin, including any serial or identifying details. A document for a different item is not useful evidence. Ask how the dealer authenticates products and handles a mismatch before committing to a purchase.
How can I Compare a Coin with a Euro-Denominated Gold Chart?
Identify the coin’s fine-gold quantity, multiply that by the matching reference and compare the complete product price. A collectible premium or a different issue can change the comparison. Do not use the face value stamped on the coin as its metal value.
Is an Insured Postal Sale Equivalent to a Counter Sale?
Compare who bears the risk in transit, when the price becomes binding and how the weight and fineness are agreed. Request the process in writing. A headline per-gram offer can be less informative than the final amount and the conditions for rejecting it.
Why can EUR Gold Differ from the Change Reported in us News?
A US report may quote dollars, a different time or another series. Match the underlying gold measure and apply a consistent currency basis before comparing percentage moves. A euro conversion can move differently when the exchange rate changes.
Can I Value Inherited Jewellery Only by its Gold Content?
A metal calculation provides one reference. The item may need separate assessment for stones, workmanship, provenance or collectibility. Obtain a relevant appraisal or product-specific buying offer before accepting a scrap valuation for the whole object.
