Compare gold in Saudi riyals per gram, with 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K values and practical guidance for reading a Saudi jewellery quotation.
A Saudi Gold Price Starts with the Purity
Before comparing two offers in Saudi riyals, check the karat shown for each item. A gram of 21K jewellery and a gram of 24K bullion contain different amounts of gold. The dashboard allows a consistent metal-value comparison, while the jeweller’s written quotation establishes what the particular article costs. Enter its gold weight, not the weight of a presentation box, attached stones or other components.
The current Saudi reference converts USD gold into SAR using a separately dated currency input. The daily conversion and a retailer’s offer can use different publication schedules. For Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam, distinguish a gram-based jewellery board from a price for a packaged bullion product. Ask whether the quoted amount covers the metal alone or the complete article, and obtain the monetary amount of workmanship charges.
Look for Clear Product Disclosure
The Saudi Ministry of Commerce’s precious-metal rules announcement explains requirements for product advertising to identify the metal type, weight, fineness and price. It also describes identification information for articles set with gemstones. Use those details to compare an advertised offer with the article you receive, especially when a design combines several materials.
A store’s willingness to separate the metal, workmanship and other charges makes comparison easier. Request the finished item’s description on the invoice and retain the bill. If an exchange involves old jewellery, ask for the old item’s valuation separately from the new item’s price. A discount on making charges does not by itself establish a better gold buying rate.
Jewellery Tax and Investment-Metal Treatment
Do not assume every gold purchase has the same VAT treatment. ZATCA’s implementing regulations distinguish qualifying investment metals, with purity and tradability conditions, from the broader category of gold products. A 21K or 22K jewellery item should not be treated as qualifying investment bullion just because gold is valuable. Ask the seller to state the applicable treatment on the invoice.
For an actual retail offer, compare the final payable amount. The Ministry of Commerce’s price-display guidance states that displayed consumer product prices include VAT where applicable. This website’s metal reference serves a different purpose from an offered shop product, so its calculator does not replace the seller’s complete invoice.
Charts can help you see how the SAR reference changed over a selected period. A daily price movement is useful context for a purchase quotation, but it cannot establish a guaranteed future rate or the exact buyback value of a personal jewellery collection.
For a purchase offered with separate workmanship charges, the jewellery-price breakdown guide helps organise the figures before comparing two SAR totals.
Worked Comparison: Equal Weight, Different Karat
Hypothetical metal reference: suppose 24K gold is SAR 400 per gram. A 12-gram 21K necklace contains a nominal 10.5 grams of fine gold and has a metal reference of SAR 4,200. A 12-gram 22K necklace contains 11 grams and has a metal reference of SAR 4,400.
The SAR 200 difference follows from half a gram of additional fine gold. It does not establish a workmanship difference, a Riyadh–Jeddah premium or the tax on a finished necklace. An advertised discount of SAR 250 on the second item’s workmanship could outweigh that metal difference in the final bill, depending on the remaining terms.
Use the karat stated for each article, calculate the metal component separately, then compare the seller’s complete consumer prices. Keeping the origin of the SAR 200 difference visible makes the comparison useful even when two designs have different workmanship.
FAQs
What does the 21K Gold Value Mean in Saudi Riyals?
21K represents 21 parts gold out of 24, or 87.5% by mass in the simple karat calculation. Select 21K to compare its underlying gold value. A finished 21K article still needs its own workmanship and complete-price quotation.
Can I Compare a Saudi 21K Necklace with a 22K Necklace?
First compare their net gold weights and purity. Equal gram weights do not contain equal quantities of fine gold. Then compare the complete bills, since different designs, stones and workmanship can outweigh the difference in metal content.
What should a Riyadh Gold Quotation Identify?
Ask for the shop or market publisher, quotation date, purity, gram weight and whether the amount is a selling or buying price. The listed location provides context, while the actual dated offer supplies the price. Check all charges for the particular article before comparing totals.
What Product Details should Saudi Gold Advertising Explain?
The Ministry of Commerce announcement identifies metal type, weight, fineness and price among the required disclosures. Compare those particulars with the product and its invoice; a prominent price without a clear weight or purity is difficult to assess.
Are 22K Jewellery and Investment Bullion Treated Identically for VAT?
No single treatment should be assumed for all gold. ZATCA’s regulations set conditions for qualifying investment metals, including purity of at least 99% and tradability on the global bullion market. Confirm the classification and applicable treatment of the actual product.
Should I Add Tax Again to a Store’s Displayed Final Price?
Saudi price-display guidance says consumer product prices include VAT where applicable. Ask for the final invoice and compare it with the stated offer. Avoid adding tax a second time to a quotation already presented as tax-inclusive.
Does a 10-Gram 24K Reference Include the Cost of a Minted Bar?
It measures the reference value for that gold weight. A minted bar can have its own packaging, manufacturing and selling premium. Compare the seller’s complete amount for the specified fineness and bar brand with the metal reference.
Can I Bargain on Making Charges without Changing the Gold Weight?
Ask the seller to show the agreed gold weight, rate and workmanship amount separately. That lets you see which part of an offer changed. Recheck the final item specification after negotiating so a lower total does not conceal a different weight.
How can I Compare Jeddah and Dammam Offers on the Same Day?
Request equivalent designs or bullion specifications and matching gram weights. Record each supplier’s quotation time, metal amount and other charges in SAR. Then compare the final written totals; differences in service or workmanship can matter even when the quoted metal rate is equal.
Can this Rate Determine My Zakat Obligation?
The reference can assist a valuation, but it does not determine the applicable religious treatment or your full circumstances. ZATCA’s ZAKATY information describes a dedicated service with gold-purity calculations. Check the valuation basis relevant to your situation.
What should be Recorded When I Sell Jewellery Back?
Keep the article description, measured net weight, assessed fineness, buying rate and any deductions in writing. Confirm whether the payment is cash, a transfer or credit towards another item. Compare the final proceeds rather than only the headline per-gram rate.
Can I Use a Saudi Rate to Compare a Purchase in the UAE?
Yes, after matching the purity and gram weight and converting both complete offers to one currency. Include payment conversion costs, applicable taxes and any transport or import requirements. An international spot conversion alone does not establish which final purchase is cheaper.
