How to Read the Gold Rate
Read the currency, purity, weight and date with every amount. A current metal reference helps you compare gold values, while a named jeweller’s quotation applies to its product and buying or selling terms. A country reference is not a government-set retail price or a guarantee of what every shop will charge.
This page records the data credits, calculations and research behind the tools. The rate panels keep the essential price information in view; the original publications and fuller explanations are collected here.

Gold-API supplies international metal references. BaKhabar Pakistan supplies a dated domestic PKR reference. India can instead use IBJA’s published fineness table when that option is configured. An international metal value, a domestic reference and a particular dealer offer remain separate kinds of quotation.
Dates and Automatic Updates
“Last Updated” records the latest successful collection of the displayed reference. When that record contains an older market observation, its quotation date remains visible separately. Checking an unchanged quotation today does not make it a newly observed market price. A publication that provides only a date keeps that precision.
Background checks refresh current references, daily records and supplier quotations according to their publication and checking schedules. The browser reads the stored results while the page is open. If a current quotation cannot be retrieved, the most recent validated daily reference can supply a dated comparison until a current quotation becomes available. Its price basis stays identified and its original date is preserved.
Currency Conversion
Where a separate currency input is used, the calculation multiplies the USD gold amount by the number of local-currency units per dollar. Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran use the daily Currency API dataset identified in the daily-history credits below. Its CC0 dedication permits reuse without a required attribution link beside every result. The currency input keeps its UTC publication date; it is not given an invented intraday timestamp.
A conversion changes the currency of the metal reference; it does not add a dealer premium. Iran is displayed in Iranian rials, IRR. A toman quotation or a different currency-market basis must be made explicit before comparing the amounts.
Purity, Weight and Rounding
A supported original tola or 10-gram quotation takes precedence when the selected purity and weight match it. Other weights use the corresponding per-gram rate. Divide a quoted 10-gram amount by 10, or a troy-ounce amount by 31.1034768, before multiplying by the required gram weight. This calculator uses 11.6638038 grams for one tola; 12 grams remains a different quantity.
Where only a pure-gold reference is available, the calculation multiplies it by the selected karat divided by 24. The calculator includes 24K, 22K, 21K, 18K, 14K, 10K and 9K. A separately published supported purity quotation takes precedence over a theoretical ratio. For example, the optional IBJA mapping retains published 999, 916, 750 and 585 amounts under 24K, 22K, 18K and 14K; its other supported purities are calculated.
Precision is retained until the final display. Recalculating from an already rounded visible number may create a small difference. The metal calculation does not determine stone values, workmanship, tax treatment or a buyer’s deductions.
Daily History Credits
The daily gold-and-currency archive comes from Fawaz Ahmed’s Currency API dataset, published under CC0. Each historical conversion uses the gold and currency inputs from the same dated release. The website converts those inputs into the selected purity and weight and stores the accepted daily observations.
Dates in this archive are UTC publication dates. The daily chart is a metal-reference history, rather than a record of every local jeweller’s prices or an official exchange close. Yesterday, week-ago and chart changes compare observations within that history. Current domestic quotations keep their own price basis and are not spliced into the historical line.
City and Jeweller Quotations
Each city table identifies its price basis in the rows. National values may be identical across cities; supplier offers retain the jeweller, product, purity, original weight and buying or selling terms. Displaying a national value under a city heading does not make it an independently observed local offer.
Country boxes may include a short note supplied by the website operator. This display text does not change the underlying data publisher, price basis or calculation. An institution’s name in an operator note is not evidence of that institution’s verification or endorsement.
The named suppliers below provide the selected additional quotations. Network quotations retain their network scope; they are not assigned to individual cities. Equal published prices are retained as equal, and no city premium is invented.
- RSBL — selected Mumbai products and Delhi reference.
- Aish Jewellers — Lahore published reference.
- TANAKA — Japan retail network.
- Hatton Garden Metals — UK published online buying rates.
- AJPM — United States Gold Buffalo product quotes.
- OroPocket digital-gold quotations, when available.

The gold column is presented as a table, downloadable files and a chart. Month labels are standardized to YYYY-MM; the numerical observations are retained as published. Figures are monthly averages in nominal US dollars per troy ounce, with no inflation adjustment.
The World Bank changed its gold benchmark in June 2025: recent months average daily spot prices; earlier months use the London afternoon-fixing series described in the workbook. Treat comparisons across this boundary with that methodology change in mind. The archive is not adjusted for inflation.
Contributors listed in the original workbook: Bloomberg Finance L.P.; Kitco.com; International Monetary Fund, International Financial Statistics; London Bullion Market; Metals Week; Platts Metals Week; Shearson Lehman Brothers, Metal Market Weekly Review; Thomson Reuters Datastream; World Bank.
Country and Guide Research
The references below support the explanations of gold products, measurement, hallmarking and transaction rules. They are grouped by the country or guide in which the subject is discussed. A publication’s relevance to an explanation does not mean its author endorses this website. Worked examples are explicitly hypothetical and are not entered into the price history.

Checks and Corrections
Incoming observations must have valid dates, compatible currencies and positive numerical prices. Invalid, older or future-dated replacements do not overwrite an accepted quotation. Archive updates also check the sequence, unit and benchmark definition before replacing the previous edition. These checks protect the calculations and records; they do not inspect a physical gold item.
Real publisher and editorial details, where supplied, appear on About. Use the private corrections form to report a price, calculation or article issue with enough detail to reproduce it. A checked correction stays attached to the relevant date and price basis.
